Seed Sprouting at home Easy and Nutritious

Sprouting!


A powerhouse of nutrients that is cheap and easy to do yourself at home! Once again, the kids LOVE this process so GET THEM INVOLVED!! They will learn so much and get so excited to enjoy the sprouting right before their little eyes :)
 

All you need is:
Seeds
Jar and Lid ring
Cheese Cloth
Water
Day 1:
Step 1: Put 1 Tablespoon to ½ c of seeds (broccoli, radishes, alfalfa, etc). To fill a quart size jar with sprouts, use 3 tablespoons of seeds. Iherb.com has great deals on Zesty Sprouting Mix and also Alfalfa Sprouting Mix.   

Step 2: Fill the jar with water and put on your Cheese Cloth (doubled over) and tighten on your ring

Step 3: Let it set 12-24 Hours soaking in the jar full of water






Day 2:
Step 4: After they have set overnight, drain and rinse them with fresh water (keep the cheese cloth and ring on so you don't run the risk of washing all your seeds down the drain). Fill with fresh water and give it a good shake, then drain the water out and set the jars at a 45 degree angle so they have time to drain out all the water and have air circulate through them (cheese cloth and ring still in tact!)

Days 3,4,5,6
Step 5: Rinse them once in the morning and once in the evening with fresh water and a good shaking leaving them to drain out each time as well. Do this for 3-5 days.

<- By the second day of morning and evening rinsing you will begin to see tiny little tails emerging.

By the 5th day you will start to have significant expansion in your sprouting jar! ->







Step 6: Once the sprouts form little leaves, set the drained jar of sprouts in a sunny window for several hours to enrich the nutrients, then put them in the refrigerator for yummy eating!
